About Me and OE

This Used To Be a Lighthearted Page.
OE means Made In America.

I used to tenderfoot around this issue because it seemed no one cared and gosh I wanted some European sales.

Unfortunately UPS bought every small expedited shipping company and now it costs too much to ship overseas. Even with a weak dollar.

We am a small shop, we make almost everything in house. We weld, machine, sew, powdercoat and answer the phone. Two dudes make your OE stuff. Me and Dave.

It takes the supplies and services of over twenty different domestic vendors to produce an Organic Engines product. That boils down to twenty different inventories to manage, all with different lead times, minimum orders and payment terms.

In 1998 I had to beg my bank to provide me with merchant services so I could accept credit cards. No store front and selling direct to the public over the internet was a wild concept to sleepy Tallahassee bankers. Even then most people did not have much cash money, and if you did not know already, the Credit Card Companies take a percentage of every sale I make. I am not allowed to charge extra for this as it would be a violation of my Merchant Service contract.

It takes time and money to make products in America and it takes time and effort to start something and keep it going.

Look around. Everything is imported because the developing world is full of people who will do anything for money. Look around again. Everything is imported because some Americans will do anything for money and most Americans will never have the money they need.

Ask any corporation why they import their products and the answer you will get is some nice sugar coated econ-babble about the cost of production and shareholder value and creating a level playing field and blah blah blah.Translation: “We care more about ourselves than we do about our neighbors and countrymen.”

It’s a sad state of affairs.

I will continue to make the products that I sell and I will continue to spend as much of my resources as possible on people who do the same.

It’s Victory Garden time everyone.

Dan

P.S. On a lighter note here is a snapshot of my cute little first website from the WayBack Machine. Too bad they did not save all the images I painstakingly made with Paintshop Pro
